We are fortunate to live in a real community – a place where people have chosen to be rather than to simply find themselves. We respect our neighbors and strongly value the friendships we have made here. We feel passionately about the quality of life we enjoy and are happy to support worthy local enterprises that expand our choices in meaningful ways.
I believe you are among a group of people who take special pleasure in the selection and preparation of the food we eat and the meals that follow. For people like us, this community has much to offer: specialty food stores, a growing number of conscientious farmers, and farmer’s markets 3 days of the week. The bucolic drive to Great Barrington puts us in close proximity to a remarkable range of food choices. And while there is little to complain about in this department, one striking option is missing that many agree would constitute a significant improvement in our culinary lineup: an authentic butcher shop – a place that offers fresh grass-fed and pasture-raised meats sourced exclusively from local farms and then properly aged on premises and cut to order. A place that truly understands personal service.
I am currently planning such a business in Great Barrington – which I will call The Meat Market. I would very much like your help in making this enterprise the success it can be. Growing out of my belief in the essential value of community involvement, I am seeking a group of Founding Supporters who care about local agriculture as a means of sustaining the beautiful rural quality of our region, who believe knowing who grows their food is important, who care about reducing the distance it travels to get to us, and who are excited about having every-day access to the wonderful quality and delicious flavor fresh pasture raised meat products have to offer. If you care about these things, as I care, and could imagine yourself becoming an enthusiastic customer of The Meat Market, I ask you to invest $1,000 toward making this idea a reality. While I will also seek some conventional financing, I believe strongly that the contributions of friends and neighbors, and our commitment to each other, will be the ingredient that makes this venture both a financial success and a integral part of our community.
I hope you will take a look at our 1-page loan agreement which follows this letter, not because I assume you will become a Founding Supporter, but because I want you to see how simple the agreement is – including your 10% discount. For your loan in the amount $1000.00 you will receive a 10% discount on all products and services purchased at The Meat Market for the first 12 months of business. At the completion of our first year of operation, you will receive a Credit Voucher for $1000.00 which you can redeem as you desire at The Meat Market for any of our products and services until we have fully repaid your loan.
If for any reason we do not open The Meat Market within 12 months of this loan, the full amount will be returned to you.
